Level 1 2004 Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) mock test result
Well, I tried doing the test using the written allocated time. I finished the 1st (character & vocabulary) and 2nd (listening) section on time, but got short of 10 numbers for the last (reading & grammar) section. The result was pretty bad:
- Character & vocabulary: 76.7/100 (76.7%)
- Listening: 72.4/100 (72.4%)
- Reading & grammar: 120.8/200 (60.4%)
- Combined: 269.9/400 (67.5%)
It is said that the passing grade for JLPT level 1 is around 75%. Does it mean that I need to have 75% score for each section, or only for the combined score? Well, whatever the criteria may be, I still need to work hard if I want to pass.
Some notes:
- A wrong answer doesn’t substract the score. I filled all the remaining questions with ‘1′ when the time ran out.
- Reading really took a lot of time. I did like the first 2 passages and skipped right into the grammar questions. Only after the grammar section was done did I try doing the remaining reading questions. However note that a reading question is worth 5 points while a grammar question only 2.
- I’m now investigating all the grammar that popped up in the grammar section. That includes the correct answer and also the wrong choices. It’s interesting that advanced grammars taught in Tae Kim’s Guide popped up here, such as がはやいか and きらいがある. I never encountered them in real life. Rare as they might be, it shows that I need to read more!
- All those insane kanji like 柚 and 梓 that are supposed to be JLPT1 of course don’t appear. I’m curious about on what test year do they appear. And I bet they probably only appear in reading passage where they give you the furigana and even definitions for the difficult words anyway.
- Talking about bonus definitions in the reading passages, why in the earth do they give definitions for “easy” words like 入力 and 種子. I know those words, so I say throw out all the definitions :).
OK, 頑張らなきゃ…

Wah iya tadi aku cek lagi ternyata 70% bukan 75% :).
Hoho jadi jauh lebih optimis nih. Thanks
